In 2007 I took a Hoop Dancing class and quickly became inseparable with my hula hoop.  My husband says he knew something was up when I became addicted to hula hooping videos on youtube.  It seemed to be my answer to  expensive gyms and a great stress reliever.  After hula hooping by myself for a while I decided to reach out to the community and invite others to join me.   Thus was born the Southside Hoop Group.  This is a small group of hula hoopers of all skill levels that meets at the Southside on Lamar building to hoop together.    Sometimes we have twenty people simply by word-of-mouth. It was apparent that hoop fever was spreading.  There was so much interest that I began to teach formal lessons in addition to the unstructured Southside Hoop Group session.

Hip Hazel Hoops was born and has had been going strong since.  I usually hold at least one class per month and soon I will be offering advanced hula hooping lessons as well.  Hip Hazel Hoops not only holds classes but also does hooping demonstrations, makes and sells it's own hoops, and is happy to spread the joy and fitness of hula hooping.  If you have any questions please email me using the form to your right.  You might also want to check out this video of me hula hooping to see how hula hooping has changed a bit from the fifties.
